Your stay at
Elephant View Homestead
WHERE FARM LIFE MEETS THE WILD

We're so happy to have you here and hope this little space becomes your place to slow down, breathe out, and enjoy the simple things.

This is a working farm — you'll likely hear the chickens, spot the sheep, and if you're lucky, catch sight of the elephants and zebra just beyond the fence. It's something special, and we never quite get used to it ourselves.

We've put together this guide to help you settle in, find your way around, and make the most of your stay.

Meet the humans
behind the farm

Warren

The electrical engineer and resident problem-solver — if it involves solar power, generators, or anything remotely technical, he's your man.

Carrie

(that's me 👋) looks after the cottages, bakes the bread, and keeps everything ticking along behind the scenes.

Iain

Son and Farm Manager — in charge of just about everything outdoors: pigs, cows, sheep, maintenance, beekeeping… and he's also a volunteer firefighter. Somehow, he occasionally manages to sleep.

Laura

Iain's wife — our resident chicken whisperer, looking after hundreds of chickens and experimenting with some very exciting new breeds.

Connor

Our teenager, assists with farm life and has taken on the very important role of water system manager.

Madison-Rose

Our granddaughter — chief chicken assistant and a very conscientious student.

LIFE ON THE FARM
Meet the animal crew
Our animals are happiest on their own menu, so please don't feed them.

Max & Ice

Max (German Shepherd) — mischievous youngster, always up to something! Ice (Swiss Shepherd) — calm, gentle, and incredibly sweet-natured. Both share a strong interest in collecting wood from around the farm (whether it's needed or not).

Our Cows — Daisy & Bobbi

Daisy was the first to arrive from a neighbouring farm. Bobbi came along to keep her company — because no one should have to graze alone. No calves just yet… but we're very much on standby 👀

The Sheep — Gordon Rammy leads

Protective of his ladies and not shy about it. He keeps a close eye on things and isn't afraid to let you know if you're not following the rules. Best admired from a distance.

The Pigs

Always entertaining, especially when there are piglets around. They may look cuddly, but they are not pets. Best enjoyed from a safe distance… preferably while watching their antics.

Our Gorgeous Chickens

Pasture-raised and roaming freely — they're responsible for the fresh eggs in your welcome basket. Best enjoyed without trying to catch them — they're faster than they look.

The Bees

Iain is the beekeeper — occasionally coming back covered in bees (all part of the job 😄). Best admired from a distance… they take their work very seriously.

HOT WATER
Hot water is supplied by a gas geyser, so there's no need to worry about running out. Just give it a minute or two to heat up.
GOOD TO KNOW
POWER
South Africa is occasionally affected by load shedding and power outages. We do our best to minimise any disruption with solar power and, in emergencies, a generator. However, extended cloudy or rainy weather may affect the solar backup.

Our property operates on a septic system. To help keep everything running smoothly, please flush toilet paper only.

Please do not flush wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton buds, paper towels, nappies, dental floss, or any other items. A small bin is provided for anything that should not be flushed.
